This song was written by Lalon Fakir, a very popular Baul saint in thousands of villages in Bangladesh - full name Lalan Fakir Shah. How many saints, fakirs and dervishes have been lost to time - many do not even know their names. However, their contribution to encouraging the people of the country under British rule is not less. One of them was Lalon Shah Fakir. His songs reached people's hearts. He tried to inspire the more infamous farmers of the infamous villages. There are so many different facts about Lalan's birth and life that it is really difficult to find out the real facts from it. Many people say that Lalan was alive for 116 years. About caste some say Lalan was Kayastha. Some say he was a Muslim. However, the news of his death was published in a local fortnightly newspaper 'Hitkari' of Kushtia.
